March Construction| 50 years in New Zealand

MARCH Construction Ltd was established in 1971 by two brothers, Buzz and Sam MARCH.  The business started out predominantly as a drain laying and civils contractor laying three water services around the Canterbury region.

Over the following years, as March Construction grew, it diversified in business lines to include piling, demolition, gold mining, property development, earth moving, marine works and pipe jacking.

Under the guidance of the second generation of the March family to run the business, March Construction started to form close ties with the Soletanche Freyssinet (part of the Vinci group) through a number of joint ventures together. This close relationship culminated in the acquisition of March in 2012 to become the group’s first New Zealand based business.

This acquisition and March’s inclusion within the Soletanche Bachy Group of companies, has seen the company refine and focus its business lines to focus on pipe laying /Three Water works and as a Foundation / Specialist geotechnical Contractor.

Combining the deeply rooted Local knowledge of March with the Global Geotechnical expertise of the Soletanche Bachy Group, MARCH Construction have been involved in undertaking some truly land mark projects in recent years including the Britomart post office building, Mt Eden Stormwater diversion micro-tunnel, MSF ground improvement, and more recently the City Rail Link project as part of the Link Alliance.

Our dedicated people - which are our biggest asset and we are fortunate to still have some of our original first employees still working for the business today.

Our resilience and agility - which have seen the company withstand numerous economic downturns and natural disasters and our solutions orientated approach are all traits that were fostered by two generations of family ownership and which now thrive and expend with the  backing by Soletanche Bachy, one of the leading international Geotechnical Specialist.

Soletanche Bachy support us in our focus on team excellence, best for project mentality, while giving us strong support in geotechnical design/method, access to plant, and increased financial capacity.

We look forward to the next 50 years and are excited by the prospects and challenges that a changing environment will likely present. We are already exploring and championing the next generation of environmentally friendly construction techniques.
